What is Linguistics?

Linguistics is one of the concentration programs in the English Department. Linguistics is the study of language. This field is closely related to us because one of the fundamental needs of every human being is to communicate through language. By studying Linguistics, we will comprehend how humans use linguistic rules to communicate; how culture influences the ways we think, write, and speak; how children learn language from an early age; and why miscommunication often occurs. These are only a few to mention many linguistic phenomena worth studying

What to study?

In the Linguistics concentration program, students learn:

English language skills
Translation and Interpretation
Teaching English as a Foreign Language
Analyzing and examining linguistic issues in our social environments, such as those of emoji, emoticon, dialect, slang, and social media language.

What are the learning outcomes?

Graduates of the Linguistics concentration program are expected to:

have proficiency in English language skills acquired through courses such as Reading, Writing, Speaking, Grammar, Translation, and Interpretation.
be capable of providing English language education.
be capable of analyzing and examining linguistic issues.

Why do we need to study Linguistics?
